ACID FREE MATTING
Acid free framing referred to the use of conservation quality
materials used
in the framing process.
Regular matting is composed of wood fibres, which, over time, decomposes and
damages the artwork. A brownish yellow core will identify regular matting.
This is due to the fibres “burning” as they decompose.
Some matting is disguised as acid free but is composed of wood fibre that
has been bleached with environmentally harmful chemicals. Which can
transfer to the artwork or document that is being framed.
Acid free conservation matting (“Rag board”) is composed of 100% cotton
fibres that naturally are free of damaging acid without the use of
chemicals. We use only 100 % acid free, cotton fibre rag matting.
